What Does Autumn Mean to You
For many people, autumn arrives with a change in the weather, a brisk wind or a chill in the air. Not for all of us. Here in sunny southern California, autumn means that the temperatures gradually return from the 80’s and 90’s of summertime to the more reasonable highs in the 70’s. It means that the overnight lows may dip into the 50’s, possibly even the 40’s. It’s a welcome change from the heat, and there is a great deal of excitement when we break out those sweaters sometime in mid-November.
Autumn can also bring with it colds and flu, especially when we get the Santa Ana winds blowing in October, subjecting us to temps in the 50’s at 7:00 am, rising to 90 degrees by noon then dropping once again into the 50’s as soon as the sun goes down. How exactly do you dress for that?
Of course, autumn is back-to-school time, which means returning to a routine and keeping everyone on schedule. This can either be stressful or relaxing, depending on how well you manage your time and activities at your house.
Autumn also signals the beginning of the holiday season. It’s easier to get into the mood for the upcoming holidays when the weather has cooled off a bit. This year, try eliminating some of the stress from your holiday season by getting some of your shopping done early.
Finally, for many of you, the penultimate sign of autumn is the bright color of falling leaves. The northern states abound with beautiful sights of vivid red, yellow and oranges leaves. But don’t think you have all the fun. Our leaves change color too – usually sometime in January.
